Smile Dell Latitude D600 Ethernet Driver Problem - 28th May 2008, 02:38 PM

If you have just reinstalled Windows XP on your Dell Latitude D600 Laptop and you have download and installed all the drivers from the Dell website, but your network card is still not installed, this short guide will tell you where to download the drivers from and how to install them.

Download the Windows XP (32 bit) drivers and save them on your desktop, extract the folder onto your desktop.
(It's attached to this thread)

Then goto Sytem Properties > Hardware > Device Manager > Click the Unknown Device > Click Reinstall Driver

The Hardware Update Wizard will now be open. Select Yes, this time only and click next.

You will now be asked where you want to install the drivers from, select Install from a list or specific location and click next.

You will now be asked where the drivers are located, they are located on your desktop so you need to:

Untick Search removable media
Tick Include this location in the search, click browse and select the folder you extracted onto you desktop, it should look something like:

C:\Documents and Settings\Dell\Desktop\win_xp_2k3_32

Click next and then the drivers should install and you will now be able to use you network card

Instead of Ethernet controller mine says Network controller.. When docked I have no internet and it doesnt recognize my network. As soon as its undocked its recognized.

I've tried using those drivers but it's not matching up with the network controller. Any ideas please??

A "network controller" can also be Firewire (1394) and Wireless. Have you checked these?

Please THANK me if this post helped you!

Dell system normally needs to start with Chipset driver first and must reboot PC after install the chipset driver.

I wonder if you have got other LAN card in your PCMCIA slot, if so, the system may got an question mark in your Device manager.

Hope this helps!

Hello sammydanido,

Have you got Everest? With Everest, you can just compile a "computer summary" and attach that to a thread for me to read.
You can get Everest here: http://majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

If you provide that, I can get detailed information to help you.

Please THANK me if this post helped you!
